BARKUMA PARTNERSHIP WITH FIVE STAR FAMILY DAY CARE MAITLAND

Five Star Family Day Care Maitland is a not for profit community based scheme which has recently lost it’s Operational Support Funding. To purchase new resources for our service would only never have been a dream for us, but with the wonderful support of BAKUMA we were granted over $3000 of educational resources. The Early Links and Ability Links services attached to the Barkuma Neighbour Centre were able to provide these resources to our service to assist children with learning difficulties, diagnosis disabilities and Sensory Processing Disorders. The children within our service will benefit enormously from these resources which are specifically used to meet their additional needs. These items will also support educators to enhance their programs and meet the interests and strengths of these children within their child care services. In turn giving them positive learning outcomes.

Tshinta Sommerville from Barkuma delivered and presented the resources to Patty Sams, Manager and Jenelle Ycas Assistant Manager at Five Star Family Day Care Maitland Service.

About ability links - Barkuma

Ability Links NSW supports people with disability, their families and carers as part of the ongoing reforms of the disability services system in NSW. It provides people with a locally based first point of contact to support people to access supports and services in their local communities.

Ability Links Coordinators, or “Linkers” as they are known, work with people with a disability, their families and carers to help them plan for their future, build on their strengths and skills, and develop networks in their own communities so they can do what they want with their lives - outside of the traditional disability service system.

About Early links - Barkuma

Early links program offers support to families with children Newborn to 8 years of age, who have been identified as having a

challenged ability or are awaiting diagnosis. The aim is to encourage families in the pre-diagnosis stage and continue to support them until they establish appropriate supports following diagnosis.

Linkers can help you to learn about and understand your child’s diagnosis. Linkers can assist you to build connections to community, mainstream and specialist services.

The Partnership between Five Star Family Day Care Maitland and Barkuma will allow children and families needing additional support more opportunities to achieve learning outcomes, which in turn supports their development now and into the future.

Thank you BURKUMA from everyone at Fjve Star Family Day Care Maitland. We are extremely grateful for this support.
